Rev. Barbara Gilday
In this extraordinary period of history, there are displaced people all over the world traveling as refugees or immigrants to find new homes with safety and economic security. We’ll look at:
Ghana: which, this year, celebrates 400 years of the first slaves arriving from the West Coast of Africa to the U.S., and invites their descendants to come home.
France: after years of French Colonialism in several African countries, history turns back on itself. Because of wars and famine, many people from these countries find themselves refugees and turn to the once Colonial power to give them succor.
US reaction to refugees and Immigrants from selected countries: What is our historical role with thee groups? What’s happening to our invitation to all the tired and hungry of the world? What are the implications of our actions in the moral core of our beings?

The challenge is to find ways to make them meaningful in a positive way and to then move on in our quest to find joy and promote growth in our lives. Today, as we explore bad times, we'll be joined by authors, movies and inspirational words designed to enrich and support.

Chalica is a week-long celebration of our UU Principles. The holiday first emerged in 2005 out of a wish to have a holiday organized around Unitarian Universalist values. Chalica begins on the first Monday in December and lasts seven days. Each day, a chalice is lit and the day is spent reflecting on the meaning of that day’s principle and doing a good deed that honors that principle. Come and hear what the children observed and learned during this holiday!
