As many of you know, our trans and gender expansive beloveds are under attack and being criminalized in many U.S. states right now. This is so serious that they fit the criteria to be designated as internally displaced people (IDPs) by the United Nations. This isn’t the first time fascism has reared its ugly head, and we at UUs know how to respond. UUSC has been dedicated to aiding people being targeted by fascism since our founding in 1940. Our faith calls us to make holy trouble for the powers that would deny anyone’s full humanity and divinity. Join us, holy troublemakers, now is the time!

Revs. Hoover & Edington
Beloved Community! Can we dig in and create it? The two of us have been imagining Beloved Community using garden imagery, and invite you to do the same. Some of the questions that have been plowing through our brains include: What plants are essential in a garden of Beloved Community? What kind of plant am I in such a garden? Should there be space for a Rock Garden? Who tends the garden? Is it possible to treat weeds and invasives lovingly? Let your imagination dig into this topic and imagery. Everyone has something to contribute to Beloved Community. We’ll include time for community sharing. Let’s “dig it” together!

Rev. Barbara Gilday
January is a time we often do a restart in our lives and it’s MLK day tomorrow, and there are wars going on around the world and conflicts in our communities. But we have the opportunity to be the light catchers, the doers and reflectors of good deeds to create beauty, compassion, justice, kindness and courage in our own little parts of the world. We’ll look at 4 questions to help us do that – with a little nudge from Robert Fulghum – UU minister, philosopher, humorist and author.

We all tell stories about what has happened to us, whether those events are good or bad. I’d like to tell the story of my recent illness and how it forced me to look deeply within to regain my happiness. I’d also like to talk about how we can use the stories of our lives to overcome self-centeredness and connect deeply with others.

Rev. Vincent Lachina
Each of us has a birth family or adopted family that forms our personal history and in many ways, determines who we are, what we look like, and how we behave. At the same time, each of us has also created a network of other non-family members whom we have chosen as friends, supporters, or loved ones. Often times, it is this Chosen Family that we rely on deeply as we make our life journey from childhood to old age. Who are our chosen family members? How are these chosen? What is their purpose? How does our chosen family compete with or complete our biological families? These are just a few of the questions we'll address as we look at our Chosen Family.

Some creation myths describe speech, the word, as the first creative act. But it seems more likely that music came first. Humanity may have created itself with singing and in turn, learning to listen.
Join us for a celebration of community and connection through song and rhythm.
Matt is a musician and worship leader who has led hundreds of services for UU congregations across the country. He has a degree in hand drumming and serves as Director of Community Life for Sanctuary Boston.
